My husband’s family lives in the OC. We visit several times a year and I take this opportunity to make my way around Southern California. It’s a fun place to visit with or without kids. On this trip we left the kids with grandparents and had some adult only time in LA. We visited Malibu, walked the beach, and ate some delicious fish. Settled on a hotel in Beverly Hills along Wilshire Blvd. Sipped cocktails and ate an early dinner so we could cruise over to the TLC Chinese Theatre and catch a 7pm show. Livin wild, I know…. The next day we visited Rodeo Blvd and the Getty Museum. On other days we visited Griffith Observatory, Laguna Beach and South Coast Plaza. Below are a few pictures and what I packed for us on our trip!

View of LA from the Getty Museum. P.S. Arrive early for ease of access and give yourself plenty of time. We also usually plan to eat while visiting. This place is huge, but stop and enjoy the surroundings. P.S.S. the east side of the compound is super windy, but you can take some cool selfies with your hair all a mess.

Special bonus! Griffith Observatory provides a view of the Hollywood sign. Squint your eyes and you will see it above my point.

Apparently, there are two types of restaurants we visit without children… Very expensive ones or others that you have to arrive before opening times and queue up for.. this was the latter.

There are not enough hours in the day for South Coast Plaza, but I do my best. My husband will only stay long enough to enjoy lunch at Din Tai Fung. But he came back for me later that afternoon with a latte in his hand.  🙂

I didn’t see any celebrities at the Theatre or cruising along Sunset, but it feels special to visit the area even if it’s full of tourists. I enjoyed reading the old concrete engravings and looking at all the old Hollywood photos around the Theatre.

Laguna Beach is a favorite of mine. We usually eat at an early morning breakfast at The Cliff Restaurant along PCH. The restaurant has valet and we just switch out a few things and then walk right over. The beach is just up the road about two blocks. There you will find a playground, restrooms, sidewalk for strolling, and even some rocky cliffs to explore. I was feeling a little extra with my sunglasses and fur coat at the beach until a women stopped to tell me she loved my look. So it’s been validated that leopard fur coats are appropriate beach attire, just in case you were wondering….

cheers,

Lyra
